Honey

Honey is a viscous, syrupy, pale yellow or yellowish brown to dark brown liquid with a sweet, aromatic odor and sweet acrid taste. It's produced by bees from the nectar of flowers and other plant secretions, which the bees collect, refine, and store in honeycombs. The color and flavor of honey are determined by the flowers from which the nectar is gathered. For example, honey from clover is commercially desirable.

Honey is one and a half times sweeter than sucrose, which is made of equal parts fructose and glucose. However, honey and sucrose impact blood glucose levels similarly. Honey can be used as a substitute for sugar, and research indicates that using honey instead of adding sugar may benefit people with diabetes. However, honey is an added sugar and provides excess calories with no nutritional benefit.
