About this place
During World War II in 1942, while hunting in this forest west of Shimla, the Viceroy of India, Lord Linlithgow, received news of America's entry into the war. This forest, supported by the local Raja, served as a hunting preserve for every Viceroy after the 1857 mutiny, who would camp there for days. A trail used for the Raja's Jeep was later developed into a road. However, with the construction of a main road, the Jeep road was neglected and eventually became overgrown. Today, you can walk this Jeep road and experience the seemingly untouched forest, with some areas still free from human interference.
