Kolkata’s colonial heart beats quietly in the wide avenues and crumbling grandeur of Dalhousie Square — today known as Benoy-Badal-Dinesh Bagh. Once the administrative nerve center of British India, this neighbourhood is a living archive of imperial architecture, mercantile memory and Bengal’s storied past. Photograph Gothic spires alongside terracotta facades, weathered timber shutters beside brass nameplates and the interplay of morning light on pale stone that photographers have long sought out. The walk begins at the iconic Writers’ Building on BBD Bagh and moves through the lanes flanking the General Post Office with its magnificent dome. We pass the St. John’s Church and its serene cemetery, wind along Clive Street with its heritage trading houses and end at the riverfront near Fairlie Place — where the Hooghly still carries the echo of a port city that once ruled half the world.
