Bygone Bagbazar: Crossroads of Spirituality, Culture and Nationalism, Kolkata tickets

About this place

Bagbazar stood at the heart of some of the most significant intellectual and social transformations in Bengal. It was here that the spiritual teachings of Ramakrishna Parmhamsa, Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda intersected with the cultural ferment of the Bengal Renaissance and the rising tide of nationalist thought. This walk explores how a neighbourhood became a crucible of new ideas—where religious devotion coexisted with social reform, where new ideas shaped public consciousness and where evolving notions of service, selfhood, and the motherland inspired generations of Bengalis. Discover how Bagbazar emerged as a meeting ground of faith, culture, and nation-making, leaving an enduring imprint on the intellectual, cultural, and social history of modern Bengal.
